Empowerhouse Coaching presents, Creative Mindsets for Business, a podcast where Entrepreneurs, Business Leaders, and their teams learn how to cultivate creativity together so they can accelerate growth, and scale to success.
My name is Amanda Escobedo, I’m your host, creative mindset master coach, and the founder of Empowerhouse Coaching.
My friends, it’s been a minute, am I right?
If you’re joining me for the first time today, I want to give you a warm welcome.
For those that have been dedicated follower to Empowerhouse, welcome back my friends!
I know it’s been a minute. And I’m sure you’ve been wondering where the heck I’ve been.
Some of you reached out via text, and hit me up in the DMs with some sincere concern for my well-being …since I sorta went ghost….
And let I want to say, I deeply appreciate the outreach.
And deep apologies for going ghost!
I think you all deserve a little context on where my whereabouts have been….
I hope you all know by now, that Im all about authenticity.
And when I first started this content journey, pushing out quotes, reels, youtube videos, and this podcast, I started created and sharing content because I felt like I have been given a pot of gold, true wealth…which is how to have a healthy state of mind.
How to live a life of purpose.
How to create the life of your dreams.
How to navigate hard well, and live a profitable and fulfilled life.
Really, I feel like i’m sitting on with these blessing on how to be an effective and happy human, and I have a responsibility to share the knowledge, share the wealth, which is why I was pushing out content.
But then I got to the point where I felt like I was getting obsessed with social media/scrolling, in a way that was taking away from my ability to be present.
I was starting to get caught up on the likes and the comments.
I also started feeling like my message sounded like everyone elses out in social media.
And as I watching consuming personal development content myself as market research, it started to hit me wrong.
And what I mean by wrong is, the content started to feel very unauthentic.
And social media was starting to have me feel icky, and in a way, that icky feeling started having me feel unauthentic with the content I was creating and pushing out.
So, I decided to take some time off. I’ve still been coaching, embracing and taking advantage of new coaching business opportunities….
And to be honest, the break from pushing out so much content has provided me w/ more balance.
And now, with some time off, i’m ready to get back in the game. I think it’s been since December/Jancuary, since I’ve pushed out some real content, so its been solid 9 months…
But I’m ready to get back into sharing knowledge.
I’m ready to get back into to the game, and teach yall a thing or two.
And, the most important part about this, is that IM EXCITED to, and thats what matters the most.
Ive been sitting for a minute on what I wanted as a first topic
I had a few things in mind…
- Leadership
- Relational Intelligence - which is valuable for Leadership and Personal Relationships
- Transforming Company Culture
- But then, someone triggered an idea.
- They asked how my weekend was, and in addition to attending my brothers wedding (shoutout to Joshua and the new addition to the family, Jenny NOW Escobedo - CONGRATS), I had pool day with some new friends and the neighbors in my complex.
And the person I shared my weekend said, wow. Thats so awesome. I remember you doing a video on new years resolutions, and you talked about a goal to increase your recreational activities. I know you’ve been working on that goal for a while and trying to build a community, your friend group. I’m glad to hear that you’re doing it. Thats awesome..
So then it had me thinking, wow, we’re already in September, we’ll be at the year end fairly quickly.
Before we start getting ahead of ourselves and planning for 2024 (depending on what type of work you do and what type of industry you’re in, you might be way ahead in the planning for 2024 and beyond),
But right now, I’m speaking to personal goals…
It’s important to end 2023 strong. We’re at a perfect time of the year, where we have great runway, opportunity to end the year strong.
So, I want us to all check in and see where we are w/ our goals.
If you created a New Years resolutions, or even a vision board, I want you to pause this podcast, and go back into your closet or wherever you have those laying around, pat the dust off oti, and see what resolutions you wrote out or what you have on your vision board.
For me, I was super excited to see some of my accomplishments, or reflect how my vision board help guide my decisions and opportunities this year.
For example, for those of you who have been following me, you might have done the Circle of LIfe with me.
And the Circle of life has you rate different areas of your life so you can evaluabte where you’re off balance in your life, and identify what area needs your attention most.
For example, the circle of life includes Relationships, Career, Money, Health, Creativity, Home Environment, Spirituality…Im sure it includes another category or two..
But when I rated the different areas of my life, Recreation/Social Life had the lowest rating. And ever since I moved from the bay to Socal, that area of my life has been a low rating for a while.
I found myself really struggling to create a community down here in the socal area– LA and OC – and I found myself having a hard time exploring the city on my own.
This year was a BIG new years resolutions of mine, to create that community, and increase my social life/recational activities, and I’m so proud to say, i’m doing amazing!!!
A few things I’ve done…I joined a flag footbal and beach volleyball team. I played a few seasons of those earlier this year.
I also joined Bumble BFF..
Now, before you start hating, hear me out. Most of you know Bumble as a dating app…but theres actually a friend version of the app if you didnt know.
A while ago, my friend told me about it, and I thought it was weird because swiping on an app is so superficial…and I’m not hating, on that because i’ve used the apps and I know plenty of people who use the apps for dating and theyvee been successful.
Shoot, my brother met his wife on bumble…
That said, I thought it was a weird way to meeting friends….swiping on there pictures…
But then, one of my friends from the bay moved to SB, and she was raving about the app, and telling me about all these great women she met, and she has a crew now, of women, that she met through the appl…
So, I gave it a shot. And so far, I’ve met 3 awesome women from the appl….and then they introduced me to more women, and now I’ve starting to have a crew!!
Whats awesome about the app is that all the women have the same intention, to meet, and connect…theyre generally new to the area and even if theyre married, they are intentional w/ making space for girl time, and theyre intentional with thinning through if it would be great for you to meet someone else in their group of friends…
So everyone is really in the spirit of connect others to others which is awesome.
Additionally, i’ve really connected w/ quite a few neighbords…I feel like i’m starting to know the whole complex, so I’m starting to hang out with my neighbors more!
That said, its taken me YEARs to build my recreational /social life rating, build a community.
And I FINALLY feel like i’m at a space where OC feels like home, i dont feel out place…
And the thought of friends, social life, community is less of a thought taking of real estate in my head. If feels like its all established and I have more space in my brain to apply my creativity to other areas of my life, like coaching!
Now, when it comes to my Vision Board, I have soooo many pictures on there, but there are 3 in particular I want to share with you all.
Many of you know i’ve been working w/ Military in Transition, helping vets find purpose after the military….so I added a a few miltary pics to my vision board.
Additionally, I have a pic of a spaceship and I have a pic of a military jet on my vision board.
Reason being, a while back, I watched a Space X/Elon Musk documentary on four random people that got chosen to go to space. …As many of you know, there are a few companies, such as space X working to commercialize going to space.
When i watched that documentary, I was like, I want to go to space!!! Im adding that to my vision board…
Now a big part of the preparation to go to space was to ride in a fighter jet….or some type of military jet. Those four people had to put there body through all those Gs to parepare for a space launch. And when I saw that, I thought, how cool!
I want to do that too! I want to ride in a military jet!
So I added a picture of a fighter jet on on my vision board.
That said, in January, I picked up an opportunity to support a large enterprise company….
Let me tell you, this opportunity is in Palmdale. If you’re from the Socal Area, you know, Palmdale and Oragange County are NOT close.
Theyre about 2 hours away from each other.
When I learned this opportunity was in Palmdale, I said Hell to the No….No way…
But I decided to continue to have the conversation with the organization because I just didnt believe the opportunity would be Palmdale as they had other offices, and closer offices to OC…
But as I continued to partner, they encouraged me to make the drive and see if it was something I was willing to do…
And I have to tell you, that drive really had me practicing my own coaching tools.
You know how I’m always preaching, you got to let go of Expectations.
And what I mean by Leg Go of Expecations is that let go of your attachment of how you think you’re going to achieve your goal or goals.
Let go of your perfect plan….
Because they’re are unexpected gems, gems you didnt plan for that show up along the way…the gems looked different then how you imagined, or expected…
Well, I definitely had to let go of my attaching of working locally and to my convenience of driving distance…
Because 1), when i drove up, the way my mind took in the 2 hour drive, was 2 hours of me time. 2 hours of learning! 2 hours of investing to myself! I could use that 2 hours to meditate, listen to an audio book, or business podcast…I could use that 2 hours to invest in things I always see to “never have the time for”.
Additionally, company manufacturer Military Jets, space crafts, and about 35% of their population were vets.
I tell you, when i was walking through that campus, connecting w/ the team, i was joking with the leaders because I was like, I cant help but feel like I manifested this opportunity.
The client group i would be working with has culture challenges perfectly align w/ my skill sets
I have supported military in transition and this group had a high demographic of military/vets.
They manufacutr military jets and spacecrafts, and its on my vision board to go to space and ride on one of those freaking jets.
I was laughing saying, i’m not sure if this company will get me there, but at least its one step closer to manifesting by being around the product.
I tell, i could not help but feel this whirl wind of synchronicity, serendicpity.
I know you all hear me constantly preach and teach about getting into your flow…
And when I talk about flow, I not only talk about getting into your zone, getting lost in time w/ working on a project, I talk about getting into a world of flow, serendipity, syncrhiocity,
Where it feels like you’re coming across a lot of a luck, because you’re coming across the right people at the right time, you’re show up to the right events, and everything just seems to be happening for you.
That what this felt like…everything just felt right…
It was different than I expected.
I was not expecting my next opportunity to be in Palmdale.
But I get to Coach, support Leadership Initiatives, and a culture transformation
All things that give me joy, purpose, and energize me.
So, thats a little how my goals are going…
Id saying theyre going great!
Now, lets get back to you!
How are you doing!!?!?
I was thinking through, there are few places one could be with there goals.
Assuming you made a list of new year’s resolutions, wrote down a goal to accomplish this year, or created a vision board….
Where you are you at w/ that?
You could have started something on your list?
And if you got started, you could:
- A) completed something on your list
- B) Hit a brick wall….and you’re in frustration mode….maybe even incubation…temporarily let go of what you’re trying to achieve
- C) you could have throw the goal or idea completely in the trash
Now, if you’re at A) youve accomplished something off your list like run a marathon, you fit into your HS jeans, you got back into the dating game and you met the guy or girl of your dreams, you got the courage to quit a career youve hated for years, and starte a new venture that aligns with your purpose, yourp passion…
My hat is off to you, CONGRATS!
Not only congrats, but have you celebrated???
Whats important about accomplishing something is celebrating your efforts! If you havent, thats your HW, thats your call to action!
Go celebrate Yourself!!
If you’re at B) if youve hit a brick wall….
You signed up for a gym, saw some progress in your weight loss journey, but had a relapse, and gained some weight, and have been feeling defeated, like this isnt a possibility…
Or lets say you started doing research on if you quit your current career, what would be that new chapter for you…what would be the passion project you pursue…
Lets say your progress is, you got clarity on the next career for your….
But you’re still at your current job, because you’re overwhelmed….YOu want to be a Life Coach!!!
But you dont know where to begin…
You dont what certification to sign up for….
You dont know what kind of life coach you want to be
You dont know when you’ll be ready to quit your current career and go full force and dive into life coaching full time….
My recommendation for you is to do reflective writing….and really tease out whats blocking you…whats stopping you, slowing you down from making a decision on a program, building content and putting yourself outthere….
Whats slowing you down from helping people even though your life isnt all together….???
I know its fear…but whats behind fear….
If you can make a list of all the things that scare you about your goal of committing taking action on your new passion project, getting back on track w/ your health goals…
Make a list of all the things blocking you, all the things thats scare you or exhaust you about the thought of taking action….
Making a column in your notebook, and define those blockers or fears
Next, create a second column, and for each defined fear or blocker, thinking through how you want to prevent or decrease the likelihood of that fear…
And last, create a third column, a repair column.
And this in column, for each defined fear and block, identify what you could do to repair the damage if your fear came true…
For example, maybe your fear w/ committing to a life coach certification program is that you’ll start the program and feel like it was a terrible program, it added no value, and you wasted your money….if thats actually happened, even after your attempts to reduce the likelihood of that happening (column 2), who could you call in for help, or what could you do to gain some type of value from the program…
So again, if you’re at the brick wall of frustration for your goal…do reflective writing…tease out your narrative.
Create 3 columns…
Define your Fear or Blockers - Column 1
Outline how you can Prevent your Fears or Reduce the likelyhood of those blockers getting in the way of you achieveing yoru goal - Column 2
And Column 3 - if your worst case scenario came true, what could you do to work through it, or who could you cask for help
Now, if youre at C of your goal - given up on yourself, and thrown the ideas of your new years resolutions or vision boards in the trash..
You’re just at the point where you dont believe anything you’ve outlined for yourself is a possibility for yourself….
You’ll never be able to start over, and pursue a career that feeds your purpose, passion and profits,
You’ll never be able to fit into your HS jeans, and feel energized, healthy, and lively
You’ll never be able to meet the love of your life
Youll never, you’ll never, you’ll never, the list goes on
And you have proof that you’ll never, which is people around you that hold the same jaded mindset, the same limiting the beliefs….
Your call to action, your homework is to visualize….to dream..
I dont need you to take any action on pursuing your goals, I dont need you to grab a notebook and tease out your narrative, and write out your feelings.
I just need you to close your eyes and dream!
I need you to close your eyes, and begin to visuzlize yourself as a life coach, helping people.
I need you to close your eyes, and imagine a wait list of people that want to work with you.
I need you to close your eyes, and visuzliaed yourself feel young, youthful, energized in yoru size whatever jeans
I need you to close your eyes, feeling good about yourself, eatgin all the right foods, being active, and indulging in a way that feels balanced
All I need you to do is close your eyes, and dream…visualized what it feels like to dream…what it feels like to believe…what it feels liek to have…
Now, this is probably the hardest Call to Action, Homework out of all three…celebration, journaling…
Why???
Because your brain is currently wired for what is not possible….
You’ve spent years consuming information from well meaning and not so well meaning parents, teachers, society…
Youve also had your own personal experiences, some failures,
Failures in your relationship,, failures in your career, failures in your health….
What feels possible and what doesnt feels sooooo real to you…
But let me tell you something……
#1 Dont believe everything your mind tells you…
#2 You have the power to upgrade your own thoughts, your own narrative, your own story, your own possibilities..
And its as easy as closing your eyes…and visuzalizng..
Visualize, once a day, everyday…1 minute, 2 minutes, 3 minutes 4 minutes a day…until what you wrote down on your resolution list, or whats onn your vision board starts to feel like a possibility…
You see, i’m not even worried about action, and you taking steps…because they will naturally start to happen, once you believe in your possibilities.
I love this quote by Jamie Paolinetti, who says,
“Limitations live only in our minds. But if we use our imaginations, our possibilities become limitless.”
If you Dream it., you’ll start to Believe it, and eventually, you’ll achieve it.
If you’re blocked by time…remove it.
Remove the barrier of time…if its not reasonable to run a marathon by the end of the year, or fitting into your size whatever pants by the end of this year, or pivoting your career by the end of this year….then it doesnt happen this year…
But it aint over…whats important is that we dont quit.
Each day we wake up, each day we take a breathe, is another day to visuzalize, dream, work through our fears, and take action.
